The mayor of Miguel Hidalgo, Mauricio Tabe, has announced the start of operations against illegal bars in the area. These operations will be carried out permanently with the aim of eradicating these businesses, which pose a real danger and source of violence for citizens.
During the first weekend of operations, nine bars were closed in neighborhoods such as Tlaxpana, Anáhuac, Tacuba, Argentina, and Huichapan. These actions were taken in coordination with the Secretariat of Citizen Security and the National Guard.
Mauricio Tabe emphasized the importance of the CDMX Prosecutor's Office being vigilant about cases where minors are found consuming alcohol, as selling alcohol to minors is illegal and constitutes a crime.
At a press conference, the mayor called on the community to join the fight against the sale of alcohol to minors and to put an end to these bars that have proliferated and become sources of violence in the area.
There has been a reduction in the establishment of bars in areas like Pensil in recent months, and with these new operations, the goal is to prevent more businesses of this kind from being set up in other areas of the locality.
The penalties imposed on illegal bars include fines of up to 3,257 pesos, imprisonment for 25 to 36 hours, or community service of 12 to 18 hours. For repeat offenders, penalties can reach up to 12 years in prison.
At the press conference, Mauricio Tabe was accompanied by César Garrido López, General Director of Government and Legal Affairs, and Marcela Gómez Zalce, Commissioner for Citizen Security of the Miguel Hidalgo municipality.
